Tour de Revs to visit pastor brother in Foxborough, Mass., June 12-16
When the Tour de Revs comes riding in to New England on their bamboo bicycle in June, one of the stops they will make is at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Foxborough, Mass., to see Pr. Rick Schlak, brother of one of the bicyclists, Ron Schlak, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Charleston, W.Va. The Tour de Revs is on a "mission from God" to help bring an end to world hunger. The three 60-year-old pastors plan to stop at 65 cities, covering 13,000 miles in 100 days -- all on a bamboo bicycle built for three. The best friends, all pastors from the West Virginia Synod, began their journey with a special blessing today (May 13) at the Lutheran Center in Chicago and end at the 2009 Churchwide Assembly in August in Minneapolis, Minn. In between, they will stop at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Torrington, Conn., June 12 and in the Worcester area June 13-16 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sturbridge, Mass.; Christ Lutheran Church, West Boylston, Mass.; Trinity Lutheran Church, Chelmsford, Mass.; Lutheran Church of the Newtons, Newton Centre, Mass., and Our Redeemer. Several of these congregations are holding special events in conjunction with their visits. Follow the action at http://www.tourderevs.org. The site includes an interactive map of the tour, information about the technology of the bamboo bicycle and more. For local information, contact Pr. David and Doreen Rinas, the synod’s team leaders for world hunger relief, at (978) 256-6300 or prdrinas@yahoo.com or doreenrinas@yahoo.com .
