Emanuel Lutheran Church

The Church that Love Builds

Created in 2006, the Endowment Mission Team in partnership with the ELCA Foundation, has created an endowment program Emanuel to support key ministries.  These funds provide an opportunity for members and friends to invest in the future of the Emanuel and the larger church.

Four endowments exist :

  • Christian Education Endowment
Supports new and, when necessary, existing education programs. Funds are used for materials, outside speakers, support for members to attend educational events, and to hire temporary staff for new programs. Funds may also be used to support educational mission trips.

  • Extended Ministries Endowment
Supports new ministries within and outside Emanuel. Funds may be used to support new social service ministries that have not yet incorporated or are not able to yet receive other support. These funds may be used to support existing community ministry partners such as MACC. This fund also supports new internal ministries that may develop at Emanuel (such as ministries to single women); this might be any ministry that is supported by members and deemed worthy by the Council.

  • Music Endowment
Supports a variety of musical activities at Emanuel. Funds may be used to present special programs by outside groups or to support an internal concert series. Funds may be used to purchase music, instruments, or to maintain existing instruments. They may be used to start new choirs (such as children’s choirs) or to support existing choirs (for example by providing private music lessons to choir members). These funds may also be used to provide musical training for future church musicians.

  • Structural Preservation Endowment
Ensures the health of Emanuel’s physical plant so that Emanuel’s ministries may flourish. These funds may be used for annual upkeep, but are primarily intended for larger building projects that happen about every 3-5 years. As such, funds may not be disbursed in some years.

Funds are invested in and managed by the ELCA Foundation to secure Emanuel’s long term financial goals. Emanuel’s Endowment Committee, six elected members, oversee the development and disbursement of these funds.
