Sunday Volunteers

There are a number of ways to be of service at Emanuel. You're invited! This page contains links to online forms you can use to sign up for volunteer service on Sundays. Or, you may do so by calling the church office at (860) 643-1193. Below, you'll find a description of some of these opportunities.

Coffee Hour

Coffee itself will be made by the Sunday Specialist. Paper products are also supplied. Hosts need only to bring treats for approximately 75 people, cream and juice for 20.

Sunday Service Opportunities

Acolyte (youth)
Youth age 9 and older who are trained by the pastor to light the altar candles before the service begins, receive the offering and extinguish the candles at the end of worship.

Assisting Minister (prerequisite training required)
Assisting ministers symbolize that fact that everyone gathered for worship plays an essential role in the liturgy. The Communion service involves all of God’s people and is incomplete without everyone’s participation. The Assisting Minister's prayers and service at the Lord’s Table point to the essential participation of all God’s people in the worship of the community.

Lector
Individual who will read the lessons during worship and will prepare in advance for this role.

Communion Assistant
To assist in the distribution of Holy Communion during worship services.

Usher (prerequisite training required)
Part of the team that welcomes worshipers: passes out bulletins, assists with the doors, collects the offering, and helps to clean up the worship space after each service.

Worship Service Greeter
Individual or team who warmly welcomes guests at the front door before each worship service saying “Good Morning, I am so glad you are here today!” Invites guests to coffee hour in Luther Hall.

Welcome Table Host (prerequisite training required)
Helps guests to complete name tags, familiarizes them with the location of the facilities and escorts families to Sunday School, as necessary. Answers questions before and after serivces and invites guests to join if not follow them in communion.

Nursery assistant
Assists the Nursery Caregiver with the care of the youngest children during one or both service

Coffee Hour Host
Helps the Sunday Custodian set up coffee and beverages, and provides baked goods for guests on Sunday Mornings, either as a household or, more often, as a member of a team.
