Pastors Perspectives: Obadiah

The book of Obadiah is the shortest in the Old Testament, only one chapter covering
about two pages. It is simply an oracle against neighboring Edom, predicting their
destruction for past sins.

Edom is the region that lies to the south of the Dead Sea. Tradition suggested that the
Edomites were descended from Esau, the twin brother of Jacob. Because of this sense
that the Edomites were “cousins” to the Jews, they might be expected to be allies in
times of distress.

When the Babylonians came to… Continue

Worship as Welcome

Worship as Welcome Worship is one of the most profound expressions of Christian welcome. First, and most important, God welcomes us. Worship is a human activity, but it is based on a call from God. It is God who beckons us to gather to hear the Word, sense… Continue

Jeremiah

Jeremiah Few prophets have such a mournful tone as Jeremiah. His ministry overlapped the reigns of five kings: Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. Together these kings ruled about 40 years. There were high points, but most of that time was marked by idolat… Continue

Happy Birthday, Charles Darwin! February 12, 1809

Darwin was in awe of the grand scope of creation. He traveled, observed, studied and wrote to help the rest of us see the same mysterious complexity that he saw.

Nothing in Darwin’s personal or professional life was ev… Continue

Happy Birthday, President Lincoln! February 12, 1809

Lincoln was one of the most theologically astute leaders the United States has ever had. He was not a practicing member of any formal church, but said he’d gladly join any church that practiced the Golden Rule.… Continue

Thank you Pastor Cady.
I real enjoy to be a part of Emanuel's family. I have been learning and experiencing a lot of different things in Emanuel. Things are quite different compared to Lutheran church back home. So I still have a lot to learn. Time has been a very crucial issue to me. I have missed a lot of events and church activities due to many working hours and school; It's kind of very difficult experience to do both (hard work and school). My family is doing fine back home, except my mother who has just diagnosed with heart's valves failure. Currently, she is just waiting for the cardiologist's report, which will eventually make it clear if she will need to go through the scissor or just the prescribed drugs. Please put her in your prayer, because we all believe that prayer is the greatest cure.
Thanks again, and see you on Sunday.
