Disciples of Jesus learn from him and seek his guidance in all things. When we have
clear guidance, we are to follow it, that is, to follow him. This guidance comes directly
from his own words in the Gospels, but also from his first disciples, Paul, Peter, John
and the other New Testament writers.
What if Jesus didn’t mean to make it that hard? What if we are really just supposed to
be able to do what he said?
He said that when we give alms (offerings) we should not make a big show of it, nor…

Jonah
We all know the general outline of the story of Jonah. God calls him to go to Nineveh to proclaim their wickedness to them. Nineveh was the capital of Assyria, one of Israel’s most hated and feared enemies. Jonah was unwilling to go, so he headed west, toward Tarshish, which is modern-day Spain. Once on board a ship, there was a great storm. The sailors all sensed that the storm was some kind of divine punishment, and wonder who had committed such a major sin as to bring this calamity upon…

Ringing in a Brighter Tomorrow for CT’s Waiting Children
By Deb Kelleher
The idea for Bells of Hope came to me early last spring. I was working on ideas to increase adoptions in CT and kept coming back to thoughts of my son’s brother, now 19, who had never been adopted. For ease of writing let’s call him Justin. Justin was never adopted and aged out of foster care. I had tried to adopt him but, as a single parent of four boys (3 adopted) I was not considered an appropriate resource for him. He…

We have been doing first and second interviews with auditions recently. We have had two auditions in the past week or so and are very excited about one of the candidates. We have a third candiate auditioning on Saturday, October 17th. After that interview we will make a decision based on those individuals and send it on through the usual committee and council approvals. We will extend an offer and hope this time we will have an acceptance. Thanks for all of your support and prayers for the commi…

The book of Obadiah is the shortest in the Old Testament, only one chapter covering
about two pages. It is simply an oracle against neighboring Edom, predicting their
destruction for past sins.
Edom is the region that lies to the south of the Dead Sea. Tradition suggested that the
Edomites were descended from Esau, the twin brother of Jacob. Because of this sense
that the Edomites were “cousins” to the Jews, they might be expected to be allies in
times of distress.
When the Babylonians came to…

Whew! They sure do keep us busy down here. It seems that we have more activities than we have hours in the day. We have done so many things since the last time we blogged it's tough trying to remember eveything.
The last update ended with us going off to our interactive session at the NOLA convention center. The session was about the track we chose, Health and Wellness. After our learning session, we moved to the Interactive Center where we were given the opportunity to explore and participate…

It's Thursday and we are up and ready to start the day. It is an hour behind her in NOLA (that's speak down here) so we are all getting up an hour earlier.
Today we are off to the Interaction Center for a guided session of learning, experiencing and having fun. We will then head to Jackson Square where we will board the paddle boat Nachez, enjoy lunch aboard…

Wow! What an incredible day we had. We were up pretty early had breakfast and headed for the Convention Center to register. The convention center was kids for miles! After Mrs. Hall (our fearless leader!) registered our group, we all received a backpack with an amazing Jesus Justice Jazz bible and our orange servant day (Friday!) shirts.
The interaction center opened in the morning at the Convention Center so we explored for two hours and it was great! There are ziplines, bungee jumping, beadin…

I just viewed the movie titled LUTHER. It is a movie produced in 2003 starring the actor Joseph Fiennes as Martin Luther. I found it to be a powerful film. You all have probably seen it already but to me it was new, enlightening, and
emotion-stirring. I was glued to my seat for over 2 hours.
If you are someone who hasn't seen this film, I highly recommend you fire up the popcorn maker, get in a comfortable chair or sofa, grab a sodapop, turn off the phone, and plop this movie in your player. It…

On Easter morning, I was so happy to arrive "promptly" at church at 8:45am. I enter church to see that the offering plates are being passed already...uh-oh.
I greeted Philip and was enlightened that the service started 30 minutes ago. I hung around to attend a full service --- the 9:45am one. I had some coffee in between the 2 services...feeling like a knucklehead for not checking the day's schedule closely. (The coffee was delicious though. Thanks Philip.)
Boy, was the 9:45 service great;invi…

Oh brother!! When I attended the evening service tonight --- Saturday 11April --- the music and singing was awesome! One part in particular was so...so ....AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH.....AWESOME!!!!!!!....Jonathan's singing of "Jonah In The Belly Of The Whale". The energy I felt was like the energy exhibited by folks dancing to SWING music. I wanted to jump out of my seat and SCREAM AND SHOUT to the ceiling in praise of Jonathan's performance! Even give him a few "WOO...WOO...WOO!!!"'s.
Thank you Jonathan…
